Who We Are

It started when our founder, then working in Digital Forensics for UK Law Enforcement, noticed how many hours went into repetitive online searches that could be automated. In his own time he began mapping the patterns websites use for user accounts. What started as a hobby became a project, and basic cron jobs gave way to Python, PHP and larger web systems.

The first UserSearch Python script could check a username across 600+ websites at once. It needed a wider audience, so our founder learned PHP, HTML and JavaScript to put a usable interface in front of it.

UserSearch.org launched as one of the first username search sites online. It quickly found an audience among professional researchers in America, Australia, Canada and the UK. Rather than charge for it, our founder kept it free worldwide while continuing his career in Law Enforcement, which is how it came to be a tool built by investigators, for investigators.

Our founder's Digital Forensics career took him through several UK Police Forces, the National Crime Agency (NCA) and Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC). UserSearch.org grew alongside that career as a side project: small refinements, more search coverage and modest revenue from Google Ads. The interface was practical rather than polished, but the results kept people coming back.

Ambition took center stage as we explored the platform's untapped potential. The vision expanded beyond usernames, leading to our first subscription model at usersearch.io. This Alpha version marked a pivotal transition from solo project to collaborative endeavor as we welcomed our initial development team. Crafted during precious free hours, this premium offering introduced enhanced features while maintaining the founder's commitment to investigative excellence.

In January 2024 we launched usersearch.ai, a Beta version built from the ground up rather than an update to the old site. It drew on our founder's 15+ years of frontline Digital Forensics experience, and a growing team built out the functionality professionals had been asking for.

UserSearch continues to develop its professional search platform around integrated data sources, structured Case workflows and responsible use. Current product availability and documented capabilities are described on this site; future plans are not presented as shipped features.
