CourtListener (USA)
CourtListener is a United States legal-records data source integrated into UserSearch as a Module. It provides access to US court opinions and case dockets, and it powers the Court search type.
What it is
Section titled “What it is”CourtListener is a free legal research platform maintained by the Free Law Project. It aggregates court opinions, dockets, and related judicial records from federal and state courts across the United States. Within UserSearch, CourtListener is available as an integrated data source (Module) you can query directly from a Court search.

What data it returns
Section titled “What data it returns”When queried through UserSearch, CourtListener can surface US judicial records that may include:
- Court opinions (published and unpublished decisions)
- Case dockets and case metadata
- Party names, court identifiers, and filing details
The exact record types, jurisdictional breadth (federal vs. state), and how current the data is depend on CourtListener’s own coverage.
Which UserSearch search types use it
Section titled “Which UserSearch search types use it”CourtListener appears under the Court search type. It is one of several court-records Modules available for that search type, each scoped to a different jurisdiction.
How to access it in UserSearch
Section titled “How to access it in UserSearch”- Open a Court search.
- Enter your subject details (for example, a person or party name).
- Select the CourtListener (USA) Module, or run OneScan to query multiple court-records data sources at once.
- Review the returned records within your results.
