CourtListener (USA)

CourtListener is a United States legal-records data source integrated into UserSearch as a Module. It provides access to US court opinions and case dockets, and it powers the Court search type.

CourtListener is a free legal research platform maintained by the Free Law Project. It aggregates court opinions, dockets, and related judicial records from federal and state courts across the United States. Within UserSearch, CourtListener is available as an integrated data source (Module) you can query directly from a Court search.

  • Official site: courtlistener.com
  • UserSearch search type: Court
  • Region: United States

When queried through UserSearch, CourtListener can surface US judicial records that may include:

  • Court opinions (published and unpublished decisions)
  • Case dockets and case metadata
  • Party names, court identifiers, and filing details

The exact record types, jurisdictional breadth (federal vs. state), and how current the data is depend on CourtListener’s own coverage.

CourtListener appears under the Court search type. It is one of several court-records Modules available for that search type, each scoped to a different jurisdiction.

  1. Open a Court search.
  2. Enter your subject details (for example, a person or party name).
  3. Select the CourtListener (USA) Module, or run OneScan to query multiple court-records data sources at once.
  4. Review the returned records within your results.
