FindPicLocation

FindPicLocation is an integrated data source (a Module) in UserSearch. It is an image-geolocation engine: given a photograph, it predicts where the picture was most likely taken. In UserSearch it sits under the Picture search type as a second geolocation Module, alongside the primary image-geolocation engine, so you can run the same image against more than one prediction model.

What FindPicLocation is

FindPicLocation analyses the visual content of an uploaded image and infers a probable capture location from what it sees — landscape, architecture, signage, vegetation, and other visual cues — rather than from any embedded EXIF GPS tag. It is a passive, inference-based tool: no message is sent and no active probe is made against the subject. Because it is offered as a second engine under Picture, its main role is to give you an independent prediction to compare against the primary image-geolocation Module.

What it returns

When you run a Picture search through this Module, FindPicLocation returns a predicted location for the uploaded image, typically expressed as:

How to access FindPicLocation in UserSearch

1. Select the Picture search type.
2. Choose the FindPicLocation image-geolocation Module (the second geolocation engine).
3. Upload the image you want to locate.
4. Confirm the Cost per search shown on screen before you run.
5. Select Search Now.
6. Review the predicted location. Any result is attributed in the Data Source column as FindPicLocation.
