Internet Archive (Wayback)

Internet Archive (Wayback) is an integrated data source (a Module) in UserSearch. It draws on the Internet Archive’s long-running web archive, best known as the Wayback Machine, which captures and preserves snapshots of web pages and social content over time.

Use it when you want to see what a page or account looked like in the past, rather than only its current state, as part of an OSINT search.

What it returns

Inside UserSearch, the Internet Archive Module supports two kinds of historical lookup:

• Archived Twitter history and posts — when you search a Username, it surfaces historical Twitter activity for that handle drawn from the archive, letting you review past posts that may no longer be visible on the live platform.
• Historical website page snapshots — when you search a Website, it returns archived captures of that page over time, so you can compare how the site’s content changed across dates.

In both cases the value is temporal: you are looking at what existed at a point in the past, reconstructed from the archive rather than fetched live from the target.

The following specifics about the Internet Archive Module’s behaviour inside UserSearch are not yet confirmed and should be treated as draft:

• The exact fields returned per snapshot (capture date, URL, and how each capture is presented in the results table).
• Archive coverage and capture frequency for a given handle or site, and how far back snapshots reach.
• Whether the Twitter-history results read from the Internet Archive’s own captures or from a separate archived Twitter dataset surfaced through this Module.
• Freshness — how recently the most recent captures were taken.

What is solid: UserSearch integrates the Internet Archive as a data source, it is a passive archive lookup (it reads stored snapshots rather than interacting with the target), and it appears under the search types listed below.

Where it appears in UserSearch

The Internet Archive Module powers these search types:

• Username — for archived Twitter history and past posts tied to a handle.
• Website — for historical page snapshots and change history of a site.

Which lookup runs depends on which search type you start from. When it runs as one of the sources inside a OneScan, the Data Source column in your results attributes each archived row to the Internet Archive.

How to access it

1. Start a search and choose the Username or Website search type.
2. Enter the handle or website URL you want to review.
3. Select the Internet Archive Module (or run a OneScan with it enabled).
4. Review the returned snapshots or archived posts in the results table.

Reliability

Draft — reliability note

The Internet Archive is a well-established, passive archival source: it reports what was captured and stored, not what a target looks like now. Coverage is inherently incomplete — a page or post only appears if the archive captured it, so absence of a snapshot does not mean the content never existed. Capture frequency, depth of history, and freshness for this Module are not yet confirmed and should not be quoted as precise figures.
